Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a minimally invasive therapeutic technique to decontaminate a pocket and to stimulate periodontal repair and regeneration. Phthalocyanines show a very high photodynamic efficacy towards most of the periodontopathic organisms.
Phthalocyanine based PDT dye. Phthalocyanine (Pc) is a photosensitizer
with high quantum yield which increases its efficiency to generate singlet oxygen with high binding affinity to microbes and shows promising antimicrobial photodynamic therapeutic properties.
Dye applied after scaling and root planing; visible as bluish gel around the gingival margins.
Potentiates the effects of SRP and standalone LASER therapy. (Dr Manoj. The effect of hydroxy aluminium phthalocyanine mediated photo dynamic therapy as an adjunct to scaling and root planing in treatment of chronic periodontitis – a split mouth clinical trial. Dissertation submitted to NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada).
