RhEGF incorporated in an absorbable collagen membrane (of bovine Achilles’ tendon origin) is an efficient biomaterial in the management of gingival recession defects. EGF has extensive effects on the maturation and growth of epithelium and can logically promote the growth of keratinized gingiva over recession sites.
At the recession sites, rhEGF incorporated absorbable collagen membrane can be easily manipulated into the pouch through the tunnel till it covers the recession sites and can be stabilized with sutures.
A definite increase in the width of keratinized gingiva is appreciable 6-months after the surgical procedure. (Click on the picture to view the original study protocol)
The membrane is strong and flexible enough to be placed through a tunnel approach.
